Try to learn something about everything

Back in Action, Ruby News

First off I’m happy that I was able to fix my system more quickly than I expected.

This gave me the time to finally work on a bug I have ignored for way too long: FreeRIDE finally found its way into the tree, so there’s no excuse for not doing cool Ruby stuff anymore.
Other Ruby news: Pythonhead (aka Rubyhead ;)) and Caleb Tennis recently joined the Ruby herd. Welcome guys, it’s always good to have more people on board!

Temporary Out of Service

Today I’ve learned a valuable lesson the hard way: don’t, I repeat, don’t type anything in a shell while your mind is occupied with something else. I’ve seriously screwed up my system today because of this exact reason† and it took me quite a while to get everything back in a more or less working state.

I will have to use my limited time over the next few days to iron out the last few glitches, before I’m able to do something useful again.

† For all the curious ones: the incident involved rm and a wrong parameter. You can figure out what that means by yourself, once you stop laughing…

Don’t You Invest in Me!

The only thing really remarkable about the last few weeks is my complete and utter lack of motivation. It’s really hard to drag oneself out of bed, when the only things one is able to do afterwards are watching TV and playing video games. At least it’s a good mood for listening to nice music.

Added RedCloth

Today I found some time (read: ignored University duties) to work on Gentoo again. I finally remembered to add dev-ruby/redcloth (link) to the tree, which is a really cool library for Textile. If you’re looking for a nice and easy markup language give this one a try!

Besides that it was just the usual stable marking and cleaning out of old package versions.

Blog Started

After having waited for way too long, I now have decided to finally start adding content to this site. As soon as we manage to update our Drupal installation at cargal.org so that it finally generates valid RSS, I will import my old blogs from there. Most of the new messages will be dual-feeded for your reading pleasure, so you can follow them wherever you want.
